DOI RESIDENCE REMODEL
For Doi family, long waited kitchen remodel project started with very clear goals. First, it needs to be very functional and spacious as a kitchen since the family prepares three meals in each day for themselves. Second, the new kitchen should be a place for enhanced social activities for Doi family as well as for visitors. Third, the kitchen should be modern style.
Removing the existing bearing walls between kitchen and living room and between kitchen and dining room was explored as a potential solution to make the existing kitchen feel more spacious by providing open living-dining-kitchen plan while providing visual transparency between different activities such as cooking at the kitchen, watching tv in the living room and reading in the dining room.
With the cantilevered steel post solution, holding the beams from both ways, new kitchen island provides uninterrupted visual connection for all activities, celebrating the island as the hub of any kind of social activities.
White thermofoil top cabinet, ebony stained cherry bottom cabinet and blizzard Caesarstone waterfall countertop works well with the family’s modern style kitchen idea.
